I have completed an Honours Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Ottawa and a Clinical Masters of Social Work from the University of Manitoba. As a committed learner, I was nominated for the Clara Kemila Anderson award for outstanding field practice during graduate school.
I have worked in social services for many years with over a decade of experience providing therapy to adolescents, adults and families in both the non-profit and mental health system. This includes providing counselling for adults in various capacities such as short-term private practice, brief drop-in therapy, sexual assault crisis work and as an Adult Counsellor at the Women's Health Clinic. In addition to work with adults I have worked with adolescents in a variety of settings including as a Child and Adolescent Mental Health worker within the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, as an Adolescent Counsellor at the Women's Health Clinic, with sexually exploited youth at the Transition, Education & Resources for Females program as well with youth in schools, corrections and institutional based care.
I have a specific focus on helping adults heal from trauma and loss including reproductive losses such as infertility and pregnancy loss. I have continuously sought out specialized techniques and training to be able to offer a high level of service in this area. This includes achieving certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I am passionate about helping people break free from their past and find hope in their future.
As a social worker I believe strongly in the power of healthy communities. I am a current board executive at New Directions for Children, Youth, Adults and Families. Past volunteer commitments include The United Way of Winnipeg, Fertility Matters Canada, Winnipeg Harvest, Klinic Community Health Center as well as the College of Social Work Children's Special Interest Group.
I am a member in good standing of The Manitoba College of Social Workers, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Canada and The American Society for Reproductive Medicine. I seek regular confidential supervision and consultation.
